Last summer I had the privilege of being a madricha (counselor) for the Tikvah program, working with our Ezra (vocational education program) participants. It was truly one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.
Spending two full weeks together, 24/7, created a deep and unique connection that is hard to put into words. The experience was incredibly intense, in the best way possible, challenging, emotional, eye-opening, and deeply rewarding. Every day brought new lessons, not only about special education and care, but also about patience, empathy, responsibility, and unconditional love.
The love I received from the participants is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. Their openness, honesty, and ability to live fully in the moment taught me so much about what truly matters. Being there for them, supporting them, learning their needs, and celebrating their achievements, big and small, was both humbling and empowering.
This experience pushed me to grow personally and emotionally. It helped me better understand myself, my strengths, and the kind of person I want to be. Without a doubt, my time with Tikvah was not just a summer job, but a life-shaping experience that I will carry with me forever.
I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to be part of Tikvah and for the incredible people, participants and staff alike, who made this journey so meaningful. It is something I will always cherish and one of the most significant things I have ever done in my life.
